addleverse: Puzzle with a piece missing, caption "not all there" (Drew)
Ok, well I planned on doing this sometime, and now's as good a time as any. So! Here's my first profiley post, dedicated to Drew the Fishyboi.

Basics
Full name: Andrei Arelis, aka Drew, aka Fishboi. His actual name is said sort of slurred together, so it's hard to pronounce.
Gender: Male
Age: around 17
Birthdate: 28 February, or thereabout
Astrological sign: He's a Pisces, go figure.
Ethnicity: Telmeri
Birthplace: Telmer
Current location: The West Coast, right near a cliff that looks over the ocean. He dives off this cliff often, giving his housemate much stress.
Career: He doesn't have one really. Sort-of housekeeper?
Parents: A weaver and a gardener. Not that it really matters since any adult could act as a parent.
Siblings: None
Birth order: He's the only one, far as he knows.
Languages spoken: Telmeri, English, smatterings of other things that he picked up from sailors
Height: 5'4"
Weight: String-bean thin
Body type: Lean, with the occasional appearance of a tail where his legs should be
Face type: Also lean
Complexion: Tanned, like he's been outside most of his life, because he has.
Eyes: Kind of a seafoam green/grey
Hair: Sun-bleached blond, tangled and slightly shaggy. It looks like he just took a swim and didn't brush it back out, because he doesn't.
Is he healthy? If no, why not?: He's in good shape, and he eats healty stuff, so yeah.
Clothing style: Comfy shirt and shorts. Things that won't fall apart when wet. Absolutely no shoes...except if it's severely cold out. He doesn't like the cold.
Jewelry: Doesn't wear any, too easy to lose.
Does he wear glasses?: No, his eyes are pretty good.
Marks/tattoos/scars/other distinguishing features: Just random old cuts and things. Too many close encounters with reefs and other marine life. He also has burn and shrapnel scars on his arms from the toaster incident.
Favorite/most treasured possession: He doesn't really have one, though he likes a lot of random things.
Weapon(s): He doesn't have one of those either. He's really good at kicking though. And flailing. Boy, can he flail.

Personality/ likes, dislikes
Speaking style: He's got a very outlandish accent, and the fact that he talks really fast sometimes doesn't help matters.
General demeanor: In general he's usually happy, and constantly curious. He loves finding out new things.
Hobbies: Swimming, being outside, discovering
Talents: Acrobatics, swimming, breathing underwater
Does he read? What? How often?: He'll at least flip through anything he can get his hands on. In general though, readable things don't hold his attention very well.
Does he listen to music? What? How often?: He prefers music made with natural instruments, bamboo flutes and the like.
Best qualities: He's seriously loyal, and always the optimist. Very good at cheering people up. Also very good at finding things (especially if they're shiny).
Worst qualities: He questions everything, which can grate on the nerves. He's also rather sloppy, and has no technological talents whatsoever. Electronics especially fear him.
Tragic flaw: He's maybe a little too curious. One day that's going to get him into severe trouble.
Prejudices: He's actually rather predjudiced against the "Outlanders," as they're called by the Telmeri. He thinks they're seriously weird. That doesn't stop him from talking to nearly every single Outlander he runs into, though.
Passions: Learning. That's the whole reason he left the island in the first place.
Habits: Touching things, breaking anything electronic, asking questions about anything and everything, hugging and cuddling any friend who dares get close enough, getting water everywhere
What sets him off?: Being treated like some kind of freak of nature just because he's from a culture most people know next to nothing about. People trying to force him to accept and adapt fully to Outlander culture. That and hurting any of his favorite people. These things bring complaints, and if it gets bad enough, throttling.
Mannerisms: He bounces around a lot when he's excited about something, and fidgets if he has to stay still.
Role he assumes in most relationships with others: He's the inquisitive one. In a romantic relationship he'd probably be in between dominant/submissive. Probably mostly submissive since he's never actually been in a relationship and would have no idea what he was doing.

Philosophies/past
Optimist? Pessimist? Why?: He's an optimist. It's just his philosophy that things can always get better.
Character's darkest secret: He's not one to keep secrets, really. And he's never done anything bad enough to merit a Dark Secret.
Character's biggest regret: That would be leaving Telmer, because he didn't tell anyone he was going. It was sort of a spur of the moment kind of thing, but he feels really bad about leaving his friends that way.
Character's biggest accomplishment: Surviving on his own in a completely alien culture with nothing but the clothes he was wearing. For about five months.
Does he like himself? Why or why not?: He's perfectly comfortable with himself, if a little unsure about where he's going in life.
Biggest vulnerability: He's entirely too trusting. Combine that with his insatiable curiosity and it spells trouble.
Biggest priorities/responsibilities: He just wants to help out his friends where needed, and learn everything he possibly can.
What is the worst thing that could ever happen to the character?: I think the absolute worst thing would be if he were fully assimilated, to the point where he completely lost who he was. He'd probably get all cynical and unhappy and stuff.
What is the worst thing that HAS HAPPENED to the character?: Probably getting mildly electrocuted. He was almost fried.
What is the best thing that could happen to the character?: Getting to go home, and take his friends with him. And not get throttled for a)running off and worrying people, and b)bringing a bunch of Outlanders.
What is the best thing that HAS HAPPENED to the character?: As he's easy to make happy, the best thing would be finding his new friends. He adores them.

Relationships
Marital/relationship status: Single
Significant other: None
Is he happy with this status?: He's fine with it. He just figures that if "the one" comes along (if there is a "the one") then the status will change.
Any children?: He doesn't have any, and possibly never will.
What does the character think of other people?: He likes people. He likes to meet them and learn things from them. He doesn't know the meaning of tact and will ask anyone nearly anything.

Bio: He's from a culture that most people don't know anything about, if they even know it exists.¹ To (briefly) explain, Telmer is an island somewhere out in the Pacific. Foreigners aren't really allowed in, except for merchant ships. In general the Telmeri don't want anything to do with Outlanders, as they don't want the corruption. Things are peaceful and stable the way they are, and that's how the Telmeri like it. Of course, there's still the curious types who want to know more about the world beyond their island, and Drew is just that type. So when he was about fifteen he snuck aboard a ship that was about to disembark, on a spontaneous whim. So spontaneous in fact, that he didn't think to bring any sort of food or other supplies with him. Luckily enough there was food in the cargo hold, because it was a long trip. He was also really lucky that he didn't get caught, since the sailors of this particuar ship were the type who probably would've tossed him overboard or something. He's a great swimmer, yeah, but being lost in the middle of the ocean is no fun. He's a little afraid of the open ocean.

Anyway, he made it safely to port, winding up in southern California. Imagine his surprise and shock at the sheer number of people, the amount of noise, and all the things he'd never seen before or even imagined. Rather intimidating, really. The heavy machinery at the docks especially scared the hell out of him, as did the cars once he found the highway. He wandered around in shock for quite a while. For the most part people ignored him, or stared because he was dressed so strangely. A lady finally took pity on his obvious confusion and asked if he needed help. You could almost call that a mistake. He nearly talked her to death asking about this, that, and everything. See, all he needed was for someone to initiate conversation, as he'd been feeling really shy and out of place at first. Not that he didn't still feel out of place, but you get the idea.

So this lady indulged him, eventually managing to ditch him after buying him dinner and giving him money for more food and a hotel. That really didn't help him much since he didn't know anything about the U.S.'s monetary system. He survived anyway, for a whopping five months.

Of course that sort of thing won't last long. As said, his too-trusting overly-curious nature would eventually get him into trouble. The first serious time was when a small gang of thugs offered to "teach" him things. Being the trusting soul that he is, it never occured to him that these things could be very bad. Luckily enough, there happened to be a Brandon² right nearby, and he quickly hauled him away from danger. He was even nice enough to take Drew home with him, as he somehow got the idea that the little fishy wouldn't last much longer on the streets, despite having done so for as long as he had. So! That's how he met everyone else³, and made nice new friends. He especially adores Brandon (completely platonically, mind you XD) since he was the first Outlander to ever be really nice to him.

Since everyone isn't living together anymore he's been staying with Bea in her small-house-on-the-cliff. She figured someone better keep an eye on him, lest he get himself into trouble. Despite the fact that he's lived in the Drylands for three years and in spite of his friends' best efforts, he's still too naive, too curious, and far far too trusting.

Ok, so whatcha think? I'm having fun doing this, I tell ya. So to expand my fun a bit, I made doll-pics of the lil' fishyboi.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com This is how you would normally find Drew. Just imagine him darker. (I would've PaintShopped that, but I'm not 1337 enough in the ways of PSP8 yet >.>) See, he's such a Hobbit! No shoes!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com For whatever reason, the photographer made him dress up. He really doesn't care much for shoes, or for these "tie" things. Nor does he like pants.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com But! Enough pitiful faces at the photographer will get him back into comfortable clothes! <.< Sadly, he has no idea what that shirt means. It's comfy, and that's what matters.

Hee, this is getting long, and I'm having too much fun. In the interests of making it longer and thus further extending my fun, I thought of something else to add: music!

When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
Joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
Logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
Clinical, intellectual, cynical.

There are times when all the world's asleep,
The questions run too deep
For such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am.

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
Liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
Acceptable, respecable, presentable, a vegtable!

At night, when all the world's asleep,
The questions run so deep
For such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am.

Yes. Supertramp's The Logical Song. I think of him every time I hear it. Seems to nail how he feels about some aspects of Outlander culture. Too...uptight and all that. If you've ever heard the song, you'd know the second verse has a sort of cynical edge to it. That's how I see him becoming, if he's ever fully assimilated. It'd be a really sad thing if he forgot who he was and just joined the sheep. I think he's subconsciously rebelling against assimilation, which is why he manages to still be so naive.
